So, Napoleon did face his waterloo, right ?
This song makes a good reference to a famous historical
event. In June 1815, soldiers under the command of Emperor Napoleon were defeated and
they had to capitulate. This brought to an end Napoleon’s reign, and he got captured and was exiled on
Saint Helena island
The song from ABBA called, Waterloo, makes a clever reference to this when she
says she is “Facing her waterloo”. It is said more commonly nowadays as an expression, that if someone faces his
waterloo, he faces something he is unable to achieve, win, or get.
We all face our waterloo I guess, in our lifetime.
